October 31st, 2017, marked the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, which began when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church at Wittenberg University in Germany. The Reformation signified a turning point in church history. Many people began to rediscover the gospel for themselves by reading the Bible in their own language and having it preached to them in church. Entire cultures were transformed, cities were greatly impacted, and individuals came to know God more fully as a result of the preaching and teaching of the Reformation. Every Protestant church can trace their beliefs back to the time of the Reformation and beyond. The essential truth is that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone, according to the Bible alone. As we discover these great truths together, our hope is for God to transform us so that we can reach the world with the glorious gospel of God’s grace.
