Vacation Bible School 2020

Dear GHCC Families,

I pray you are all doing well in these extraordinary times. I know how challenging it has been to shelter at home, not having personal contact with others, other than through our phones and other digital media. We all know it just isn’t the same as being in someone’s presence to look them in the eye, shake their hand or give them a hug. God has designed us for relationship, first with Him and then with others. I am trusting that this season of sheltering from one another will come to an end soon. In the meantime, we continue to not meet together in order to halt the spread of this virus. And that is why I am writing to you today, I want to discuss our 2020 Vacation Bible School plans.

As we consider VBS this year, we face the following challenges:

  • The stay at home order extended to May 3 (may be longer but unknown at this time).
  • Materials and supplies still need to be ordered (difficult with current budget restraints as well as meeting ordering/shipping/receiving deadlines).
  • Extremely compressed time frame in which to recruit and train volunteers.
  • While many families may be ready to return to a “normal” life after many weeks of shelter at home, there is also an uneasiness about releasing kids to engage in larger groups so soon (this may apply to our volunteers as well).
  • There is no place in our church schedule to reschedule or delay VBS until later in summer as other ministries, like our school, are launching their fall programming.

So, that leaves us with the most difficult decision of all, we are cancelling VBS this year. We know that this is not the ideal choice, but we believe it is the right one, for the sake of our families and our community. For those of you who have registered for VBS and made payment, we are working at refunding that to you.

Again, these are extraordinary times but we are confident that even in the midst of the uncertainty our God reigns and is using even a viral pandemic to accomplish His redeeming purposes. He is the one in whom our hope is established. Let us therefore continue to live out the gospel each day. My prayers are with you all, and I hope to see you soon.

God bless you all,

Pastor Mark
