Small Groups

Small Groups are an essential part of discipleship here at Golden Hills. Biblical discipleship can be described as bringing every area of your life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and helping others do the same. Our small groups are gospel-driven communities where believers can grow in Christ-like character together, be saturated in His Word, extend hospitality outward, and be missional toward those seeking authentic Christian fellowship.

Purpose

Our Small Groups at Golden Hills aim to glorify God by making disciples within gospel-driven communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Small Group?

Small Groups at Golden Hills Community Church are comprised of 3-20 people who meet together weekly for about 1-2 hours. The groups typically last between 8-12 weeks and are the perfect place to meet new friends, grow in your faith and learn more about the Bible. These groups meet during the week in homes and offices in various locations and study a variety of different topics.

How important are small groups?

Here at Golden Hills, we believe Small Groups are an incredibly important part of a person’s spiritual growth. They’re the place where great relationships are formed as we study God’s Word together, while supporting and sharing our lives with one another. We believe that meeting together on a regular basis is time well spent.

When and where do they meet?

Small Groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout East County and beyond. Most evening groups meet between 7–9pm. We also have some daytime groups and those meeting times vary.

How long do they last?

Each Small Group session lasts between 8 to 12 weeks. We have Fall & Winter/Spring sessions. At the end of each session, you will have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group or even taking a break. Most groups stay together throughout the entire year or longer. If you find yourself in a group that’s a great fit for you, by all means, stay! Most Small Groups do not meet July and August.

What is the required commitment?

Joining a Small Group requires an 8 to12 week commitment to attend the weekly meetings and do the homework ahead of time. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts and other special events. Strong commitments are the key to a healthy Small Group. You have the first three weeks to attend the group to make sure it’s a good fit for you. It’s a short term commitment that will make a positive impact on your life!

What will I study?

Our groups cover many different topics. Some go through books of the Bible while others study different topics that are relevant to Christian living. Most of our groups are based on the previous weekend’s message. These “sermon-based” groups are a great opportunity to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the weekend’s message works in real life. For many of our sermon series, we have study guides that you can pick up at the beginning of the series. The study guide has questions to answer and a sermon outline to help you study before your Small Group meets. It will usually take 20 to 40 minutes per week to complete the homework.

How do I sign up for a small group?

Before each Small Group session begins there are three ways to sign up for a group: on our website, at our weekend services, or by calling the church office. During the Sunday services, Small Group staff members are available to help you choose a group and answer any questions.

You can call the church office at any time to speak to a Small Group staff member who can assist you in finding and signing up for a group, or answer any questions at (925) 516-0653.

What happens when I sign up?

When you sign up, the leader of the Small Group will contact you to introduce themselves.  Once you’ve both determined their group is the right fit for you they will provide you with the address of the group’s meeting place, the date and time you’ll be starting on, and all the other information you’ll need to have a great small group experience.

Can I invite others to my small group?

Absolutely! Just be sure you connect with your Small Group Leader to be sure there’s room in the group. If so, you can invite as many friends, co-workers, neighbors or family as you want. Small Groups are designed to get people connected to our church and to one another. The more people, the better.
